Passengers stopped bus

Passengers on a city bus helped free a pinned driver on May 30 at about 3:55pm.

Sergeant Douglas Pflug reported police traffic officers and Ministry of Labour investigators were called to the new bus transfer hub on Macdonell Street. Investigation revealed a bus was parked facing eastbound on Macdonell Street in the new bus bay area, when, for unknown reasons, it rolled forward.

The 44 year old female Guelph Transit driver attempted to re-board the bus to stop it but was unsuccessful and was trapped between the bus and a street light standard that was on the south sidewalk of Macdonell Street.

Pflug said passengers on the bus assisted in stopping it, and the driver was able to free herself.

She was transported to hospital where she was treated and later released for non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators are asking if anyone has information about the incident to contact Constable Jay Bathija of the Guelph Police Service at 519-824-1212 extension 214. Anonymous tips can be left at Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or submit on-line at: www.crimestoppers-wellington.com.
