Part-time project coordinator proposed

Wellington North council plans to hire a part-time project coordinator for a business retention and expansion program … if provincial funding comes in.

The move came following recommendations of the township’s economic and development committee (EDC).

Al Rawlins, EDC chairman, provided members with an update of the program and a proposed schedule for a business visitation program.

Rawlins also gave an update on the EDC’s funding application to the Rural Economic Development program at the Ministry of Agriculture.

Mayor Mike Broomhead said the project would proceed only if appropriate OMAFRA?funding approvals are received.

Councillor Dan Yake asked for further explanation of the position.

Broomhead said the person would be conducting the surveys for the business retention and expansion project and put a report together.

Yake wanted to make certain this is not another township employee position.

Broomhead said the individual would be overseen by staff and the EDC.

He said he hopes to get more information on that funding shortly.

Council is also in the midst of recruiting additional members to the committee.

Wellington North’s business and economic manager Dale Small told committee members it needed to begin the recruitment process for one or two new public members.
