The Royal Canadian Legion, Frank Lambier Branch 409 here is getting a $69,000 Ontario Trillium Foundation grant to provide a more accessible and energy-efficient community gathering space for the organization and other members of the Palmerston community, Perth-Wellington MPP John Wilkinson announced last week.
Wilkinson was joined by Susan Leuty, a local Ontario Trillium Foundation grant review team member.
“The Legion plays a vital role in our rural community. This Ontario Trillium Foundation grant helps to ensure a more attractive and accessible facility for many years to come,” said Wilkinson.
“Extensive renovations, including new high efficiency furnaces and windows, provide a more environmentally-friendly community space that is used by so many local organizations. The Trillium grants help make this happen, particularly in rural Ontario.”
Legion treasurer Gail Rehling said, “On behalf of members of the Royal Canadian Legion, Frank Lambier Branch 409 I would like to thank the provincial government and the Ontario Trillium Foundation for their generous grant. Our Legion members and the community at large will certainly benefit with a much more efficient and more comfortable meeting space.”
Minto Mayor George Bridge said, “The Frank Lambier Legion is a very important part of the fabric of our community as the members give so much back to area residents. This grant allows our Legion to be more viable.
“Our community relies on this facility to hold many local fundraisers and organizations use the space for their regular meetings. On behalf of the Town of Minto, I would like to express our heartfelt thanks for this Ontario Trillium Grant.”
