Harriston has one; now Palmerston may get one as well.
Under new business at the July 22 council session here, council passed a resolution to consider approving a horse hitching post in Palmerston.
The motion, read by councillor Rick Hembly, was to “direct staff to investigate the cost and appropriate location and that following community consultation, the staff of the town of Minto would bring forward a recommendation to council regarding the ‘appropriateness’ of a hitching post.”
Councillor Wayne Martin said people using horses are currently tying them to a dumpster behind the store. “It’s because we’ve blocked them off from tying them to the trees in the park.”
Mayor David Anderson said if a horse is spooked it could pull the dumpster around the lot easily.
Deputy-mayor Judy Dirksen asked for more explanation for “community consultation. Does that mean a public meeting?”
Anderson said it would. When it returns to council anyone could come forward.
The motion carried.
