Overnight fire destroys home near Puslinch Lake

An overnight fire on March 29 destroyed a home near Puslinch Lake.

Emergency crews, including the OPP and firefighters from the Puslinch and Cambridge fire departments, responded to the structure fire call at about 6:30pm.

Though the fire was within the township, Puslinch Fire Chief Luis Gomes explained Cambridge was on scene first “because it is in our fire protection agreement area with Cambridge.”

When firefighters arrived the residence on Travelled Road, east of Cambridge, was engulfed in flames. Gomes estimated 30 firefighters were on the scene.

One person escaped the home with no injuries, but the main building was a total loss. Exposed vehicles and sheds were saved, Gomes said.

“The cause cannot be determined due to the extent of the damage,” said Gomes.

“But based on the witness statement from the homeowner, it might have been smoking materials that started the fire.”

Anyone with any information about the fire is asked to contact the Wellington County OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
