Event coordinator Erika Westcott was more than pleased with this year’s home show here.
“We had our best attendance this year with 806 paid visitors in addition to the many children and younger visitors that we hosted during the event,” Westcott said. “The donations that we collected from the visitors in exchange for reduced admission totalled over 780 pounds of food – this was tremendous and will greatly benefit the East Wellington Community Services food bank program.”
She explained for this year, the show partnered with East Wellington Community Services collecting the donations – in return for a lower admission.
“We work with the Rotary Club of Erin for volunteers to help support the event..”
The event is 100% coordinated by volunteers.
“We have 107 exhibitors in the arena offering a wide variety of products and services from Erin and the surrounding area. It’s very busy and the parking lot is full.”
She added that 200 gift bags for the early visitors were handed out quickly that morning.
For individual vendors such as Elayne Mc–Skimming, it was a chance to share some of the successes of the local business.
She noted the Erin Auto Recyclers will be again taking part in the Ontario Tire Stewardship Program.
“We collect tires and during the week of May 28 to June 2, all the tires collected from Ontario recylcers goes to the Sunshine Foundation, which allows children to have their dream wish.
“Last year, we collected 2,600 tires and we want to double that this year.”
She said the company also became part of the Ontario Electronic Stewardship two years ago.
McSkimming said that after the landfill site location in Erin closed, the business started collecting electronics as well.
“Right now we’re collecting about a 40 foot container per month full of electronics from the community.”
Those items include televisions, radios, clock radios, old computers and hard drives.
