GUELPH – More than 140 golfers joined United Way Guelph Wellington Dufferin on June 27 for the 1st annual Golf United tournament, presented by Herr Wealth Management.
Together, over $30,000 was raised to support the Home for Good capital campaign, which will see 72 supportive housing units built in Guelph to serve individuals who are experiencing chronic homelessness.
“Solving homelessness is complex, and it’s going to take the commitment of individuals, the social service sector, business and government to make it happen,” said
Les Herr, principal, Herr Wealth Management and presenting sponsor and co-chair of Golf United.
“This tournament provided us a unique opportunity to be part of bringing an innovative solution to life.”
The Golf United tournament was held at Cutten Fields in Guelph, a long-time supporter of United Way.
The sold-out event saw generous supporters come together for a day of golf, good food and fun, with the goal of raising much needed funds for the community.
“Homelessness is unbearable. For everyone. No one wants to be without a place to call home. No one wants to see another human living in inhumane conditions,” said Glenna Banda, executive director of United Way Guelph Wellington Dufferin.
“We are committed to ensuring there is an end to homelessness in sight, and the projects supported with these funds will cut homelessness in our community in half.”
The Home for Good Campaign is a bold call to action to solve homelessness in our community.
Through the generosity of individual donors, corporate supporters, and community organizations, $5 million will be raised to build Homes for Good for people experiencing homelessness in Guelph and Wellington.
