As Grand Taste reaches its 10th anniversary, organizers are hoping to continue another delicious decade.
This year’s event is at Elora’s Grand River Raceway on April 26 from noon to 3pm.
Organized through Centre Wellington Rotary, the event has raised $115,000 in nine years.
Rotary member Noreen Winter said when the Centre Wellington Rotary Club began in 2005 it included a lot of chefs and restaurant owners.
She said it was decided to invite some restaurants to take part and the Aboyne Hall was rented for the event.
Restaurateurs and chefs brought samples, and all the money from ticket sales went to support Groves hospital.
“Gradually over the years we’ve included not just restaurants – but pubs and food purveyors and caterers.”
She added that this year there are 16 participants.
A few years ago the event sought sponsorship and ScotiaBank was the first such sponsor and the company regularly makes a donation equivalent to the ticket sales.
Winter said the OLG is also a sponsor now and beer is donated by Stone Hammer Brewery while Diamond Estates donates the wine.
Club member Denise Pukarowski said all the sponsors, such as Zehrs have been “fabulous” along with the Grand FM.
Winter said there are local musicians who take part and there is a raffle as well.
She noted the OLG donates space for the event as well as decorating.
“It is a great community with the community working together.”
In its 10th year, organizers continue to build on the past.
“It’s a lovely way to spend the afternoon.”
The cost is $35 in advance and $40 at the door.
As to standout memories, Winter recalled one year at the museum where a sunny day allowed the venue to be held outdoors.
“The weather hasn’t cooperated this year.”
Winter said it is neat to see all the things the restaurants bring for the tasting.
Over the years pulled pork appeared to be popular along with various soups.
Winter noted that Natalie from the Fountainhead “does some really neat fusion things.”
Pukarowski added there is often help from students involved in the Centre Wellington Food School.
