OPP still looking for clues in 2015 murder of John Hatch

Police are again issuing a call for information to help solve a 2015 murder.

The partially-burned body of 65-year-old Frederick “John” Hatch was discovered on Dec. 17, 2015 in a wooded area off Wellington Road 124 near the 10th line in Erin.

OPP officials say Hatch was last seen alive the previous day between 12:30 and 3:30pm in the area of West Hunt Club Road and Merivale Road in Nepean – about 450km away from where his body was found.

At the time of his death, Hatch was wearing a denim vest with Mickey Mouse characters on the back, a black leather jacket, a blue/white bandana, glasses and black Harley Davidson boots, and was carrying a red duffel bag.

Police say that in the weeks before his death, Hatch “led a transient lifestyle, staying with acquaintances, when available” and, at times, “spend(ing) the night on the streets.”

Over the past three years, police have used social media, mainstream media, a mobile billboard and personal and text messaging canvasses to contact potential witnesses who may have had contact with Hatch.

The OPP has offered a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the murder.

Anyone with information can contact the OPP Criminal Investigation branch at 1-888-310-1122. To remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or submit a tip at www.csgw.tips.
