BELWOOD – Wellington County OPP officers will be conducting a traffic safety blitz in Belwood on July 2.
“This traffic safety initiative is a direct result of concerns that were expressed regarding aggressive and unsafe driving practices that community members have reported to police and municipal officials during the last several months,” states a June 30 OPP press release.
Police officials say the “targeted enforcement initiative” in Belwood will focus on speeding, aggressive driving and unsafe commercial motor vehicles.
OPP officers “will be conducting high visibility zero tolerance enforcement” and “will also be utilizing a Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance certified inspector to conduct commercial vehicle safety inspections and enforcement,” police added.
“Due to the community concern that has been raised in the area regarding unsafe driving practices, the Wellington County OPP is committed to doing our part to ensure that residents and visitors to the area can enjoy the area safely,” stated OPP Sergeant Darryl Porterfield.
“Our officers will be conducting strict enforcement in the area in order to ensure that drivers are enjoying the area in a safe and respectful manner.”
Police note Belwood “features several important Wellington County transportation linkages,” and is “in close proximity to the [Belwood Lake Conservation Area], which, in conjunction with a number of seasonal cottage residences, draws many tourists to the area.”
