OPP conducting “death investigation” north of Erin

Police are investigating a homicide near Wellington Road 124 and the 10th Line here.

Erin Fire and Emergency Services responded at around 7am on Dec. 17 to a brush fire at a small wooded area next to the highway just north of Erin village.

On Dec. 18, a forensic post mortem was conducted in Toronto at the Center of Forensic Sciences. The cause of death is evidence in the investigation and will not be released.

Members of the Wellington County Crime Unit, under the direction of Criminal Investigation Branch Detective Inspector Andy Raffay and Detective Staff Sergeant Rob Lake have exhausted efforts to locate next-of-kin. Police are asking anyone known to the victim to come forward.

The victim has been identified as 65-year-old Frederick John Hatch with no fixed address.

Police say the man arrived in the area on Dec. 16 or 17 from eastern Ontario.

Police describe the victim as white, approximately 5’6” tall, heavier build, grey downward curving styled moustache and grey collar-length hair; wearing a dark coloured hoodie and jeans.
