Mary Coulson and June Switzer are hosting an open house on Oct. 17 and 18 showcasing their handcrafted sterling silver jewelry and original artworks.
The event will take place at 9042 Wellington Road 22 in Hillsburgh from 10am to 4pm.
Coulson grew up in Rockwood then graduated from the St. Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing and spent her entire career at the St. Mary’s hospital in Kitchener.
Throughout her nursing career she maintained a keen interest in art, studying oil painting, wood carving and silver smithing. Since her retirement she has more time to experiment with silver crafting and design.
Her works are imaginative, creative, one of a kind pieces of sterling silver jewellery.
June (Thomson) Switzer grew up in Rockwood on a dairy farm. Upon graduating from the University of Guelph she pursued a teaching career and raised a family on her husband’s family farm near Hillsburgh. After retirement from the classroom she once again picked up the brushes and works in acrylic and water colour paint. She loves to capture farm life and the vanishing farm architecture of the rural country side. Framing of her pictures is done using local recycled barn boards, adding an authentic rural touch.
