HARRISTON – Olive Mock was recently installed as a life member of the Harriston Legion Branch 296 Ladies Auxiliary. Mock has been a member of the auxiliary since Jan. 7, 1981 and has held the following offices:
- 1983-85, first vice-president;
- 1985-87 president;
- 1987-89 past president; and
- 2008-2020 first vice-president.
Auxiliary officials note Mock was a hard worker who worked at many banquets and functions over the years including wedding dinners, Christmas parties, co-op training session lunches, funeral lunches, sporting events, mini- golf meals and lunches for conventions hosted by the branch. She also looked after the lunches after Remembrance Day services and other functions.
When Mock first joined, the auxiliary had six groups of 10 members that catered to banquets. Over the last 10 years the group is down to 21 members, of which only 8 to 10 are active, officials note.
“Olive stayed in the First Vice President position for 12 years just so we could have the position filled because we had so few members, and we have all stayed in our positions to keep our auxiliary going,” the group notes in a press release.
“Olive has contributed to her auxiliary and branch in many ways not mentioned above,” the release states.
“We as an Auxiliary feel that she is very deserving of the life membership and so a few of our auxiliary members and some of her family surprised her with a visit to present her life membership pin and card.”
