ABOYNE – Groves Memorial Community Hospital (GMCH) officials are reminding the public the hospital is open for mammography exams, including enhanced infection control measures.
“A breast screening exam is your best defence against breast cancer because it can detect the disease in its early stages,” stated Kaush Patel, GMCH diagnostic imaging manager, in a Sept. 18 press release.
“Women should know that during the pandemic we continue to operate our screening program and we have implemented infection control measures that support safe cancer screening.”
Officials say that when patients arrive at GMCH for a mammography exam they can expect the following:
- screening for COVID-19 symptoms at the entrance of the building;
- a surgical mask and hand sanitizer provided;
- spaced out appointments to ensure physical distancing and the mammography room is cleaned/sanitized after each use; and
- staff will be wearing personal protective equipment for the duration of your visit;
Patients can either self-refer by calling 519-843-2010 ext. 44705 or be referred by their doctor.
There is no cost to the patient for the breast screening service.
