Chief Building Official Jim Baker is encouraged by the activity in the township this year.
“The local economy here is doing well, and continues to do well, even now,” Baker told council earlier this month.
He noted the township has come through what was expected to be the most difficult time of the recession in good shape, with as the exact same number of permits issued in both 2008 and 2009 (269 as of the end of September).
The total value of construction is down, from about $25.2-million in 2008 to just under $21.8-million in 2009, but fees generated are very close ($187,383 versus $184,176).
For September alone this year, 57 permits were issued for $3-million worth of projects, resulting in $27,525 in township fees. Last year those figures were 32, $2.3-million and $19,205 respectively.
