WEIDNER, Emil

WEIDNER, Emil; The Lord called Emil Weidner, our brother in the Lord, to his heavenly home on June 18, 2014. Emil Weidner was born on April 16, 1928 in Kadysce, Poland. He was the oldest of eight children born to Joseph and Ida Weidner. During the war, they had to leave their home in Volhynia and were resettled in Warthegau. As refugees they came to West Germany and found a home in Trendel. In 1951 Emil and his brother Albert were able to emigrate to Canada. In 1952 he married Hildergard Roesler. The Lord blessed this marriage with two sons and a daughter. One son was killed in a tragic automobile accident. In one of the church conventions of the Church of God, Emil sought and found salvation and was then baptized by immersion. In Toronto, he found a spiritual home in the local congregation of the Church of God, where he and his family attended. Even after moving to a farm near Grand Valley, Ontario, the Toronto congregation remained their home church. Even in snowy winter weather, they would often be in church, which took at least an hour to drive one-way. In addition the Weidners would regularly open their home on the farm for a small group church service and prayer meeting during the week. Emil loved farm work, and was especially fond of livestock and nature. Unfortunately the pollutants and impurities he inhaled during that time led to lung problems and difficulty with breathing. He also battled cancer in his later years. The death of our brother is especially difficult for his dear wife, Hildergard, with whom he shared joy and sorrow for 62 years. He also leaves behind his son Harold Weidner, from Grand Valley, Ontario, his daughter Barbara Ellen and husband Bernie from Bamberg, Ontario, as well as grandchildren, and brothers, many relatives, friends, as well as his spiritual brothers and sisters in the Church of God in Toronto. We are mourning today, but not as such who have no hope, for we know that death is merely a transition from this life to the next. Our brother was ready to meet his Lord. Let us too be ready for Christians never see each other for the last time.
