WARNER, Brian

Peacefully passed away at Guelph General Hospital on August 9, 2023, at the age of 90. He leaves a legacy of love, creativity, and unwavering pride in his family. Brian was born on July 13, 1933, in Coventry, England, to the late William Ronald and Edith (née Cowley) Warner, where he was raised with his late sister Sheila Shale, (née Warner). Brian graduated from the College of Art at the Guild of London Institute, England. After serving as a cipher specialist for the British Armed Forces, he embarked on a fulfilling career as an interior decorator, designer, and artist. In 1969, Brian and his family immigrated to British Columbia, Canada. In 2021, Brian moved to Ontario, Canada, to be closer to his children and their families. Brian was a lifelong sportsman. He played cricket as a young man and was a devoted Coventry City Sky Blues soccer fan. He was also an avid golfer. The golf course was his sanctuary, where he honed his skills and created enduring memories—even achieving two hole-in-ones! His infectious enthusiasm for the sport was felt by all those who knew him. One of Brian’s greatest joys was making his friends and family laugh with his quirky sense of humour. Though often tempted, Brian never swore. Instead, he used creative replacements like “Flip!”, “Jeepers!” or “Corrugated Iron!”. Brian was predeceased by his loving wife, Margaret Avril Warner (née Hearn), and infant son, Lawrence. He is survived by his two children, Adelaide (Walter) Schubel and Samuel (Deborah Tovell) Warner, and their families. Brian’s family will host a private celebration of life to honour his memory. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be directed to the Stone Lodge Retirement Residence in Guelph, Ontario, or the Guelph General Hospital. May he rest in eternal peace.
