WALKER, Paul Warren

January 1, 1954 - September 25, 2020

With heavy hearts we are announcing that Paul passed away peacefully on Friday Sept. 25, 2020 at the Guelph General Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Yolanda (2017). He was the son of the late Stan and Patricia Walker and son–in-law of the late Kirk and Nell Nieuwenhuis. He was a loving big brother to Brent and Leslie (Brian) Cross and a loving brother-in-law to Sandra Nieuwenhuis (predeceased) and Wendy (Mike) Kosturik, Tessa (Scott) Guyer, Robert (Lisa) Nieuwenhuis and Chris Nieuwenhuis. Much loved uncle to Somer (Greg) Guymer, Kenzie, Lexi, Elizabeth, Caden, Carolyn, Rachel, Noelle, Julianna, Emily and Andrea. Great Uncle to Hannah, Maddy, Taylor (Dylan), Nirvanna. Paul was an extraordinary man who loved his community and volunteered his time to many organizations. He was a 40 year employee of the LCBO. Paul spent most of those years managing the Elora store where he gained many friends. He organized an annual LCBO golf tournament which benefitted the “Make A Wish” children’s charity. Since 2006, he was the President of the Grand River Agricultural Society. In that capacity, he organized many events for charity such as Pedal for Portage, and a Christmas party for Foodbank recipients. He was a long time member of the Elora, then Centre Wellington Chamber of Commerce where he served on many committees and also as a Director or Officer. He organized the Chamber Wine Tour for 20 years as well as the annual golf tournament. Paul was given the President’s Award for his active support and unselfish volunteerism. He was a member of the Economic Development Advisory Committee for the Township of Centre Wellington. He was also a long time Elora Festival volunteer. Paul loved sports and was an avid golfer. He enjoyed playing many golf courses in Ontario, but he especially liked his golf trips to Myrtle Beach and Florida, first with Yolanda and later with his golf buddies. Paul will be remembered fondly by his close friends: Beth Campbell, Nicole & Greg Gielfeldt, Heather Ewing and Jim Near, Nick Bachinski and Roberta Scarrow, just to name a few. Due to Covid-19 restrictions the family has decided to have a Celebration of Paul’s Life at the Grand River Raceway in Elora, when the restrictions will allow his many friends and co-workers to all attend. Arrangements are entrusted to the Graham A Giddy Funeral Home. Donations in Paul’s memory can be made to the “Make a Wish” children’s charity or the Guelph Humane Society building fund.
