WAIND, Mary Elizabeth

February 19, 1945 - December 14, 2023

Passed away peacefully at Hospice Wellington Guelph. Loving Aunt to Matthew Waind, Tom Waind (Mary Dianne), Cathe Waind, Bill Waind (Carolyn). Survived by her loving sister-in-law Phyllis (Hugh). She was a devoted Great Aunt to her nephews’ and niece’s children. Predeceased by her parents Henry Carman Waind (1981), Jean Maitland Waind (2003), brothers Paul Waind (2022), Hugh Waind (2013) and nephew Mark Waind (Bonnie). Also predeceased by sisters-in-law Barbara Waind (2003) & Carol Ann Way (2009). Mary will be missed by old friends and neighbours Ken & Sharon Boys and Debbie Willetts. Special thanks to her dear friend Mary Curry who was a faithful helper to Mary over the last year and comforted her in her final days. Mary lived most of her life in Elora in the home built by her parents. Known as Beechcroft, Mary included the home in blogs and it was a haven for her. Some of those times were dedicated to caring for her mother in her later years, enabling Jean to live out her years at home. Mary had a long career in Education. She was perhaps influenced by growing up across from Elora Public School where for a short time she was school secretary. The balance of her career was as a Teacher Librarian at Paisley Road Public School in Guelph. A woman of strong Christian faith, Mary dedicated her life to her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. She was an active member of various church communities always willing to help out teaching or participating in music ministries. Riding her bicycle around Elora, or a mid-day skate at the Elora arena were some of the fun activities she enjoyed. She will be missed by many friends from Elora and area, and church communities she participated in. Over her lifetime she made friends in many corners of the world. Visitation will take place at the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home, 280 St. David Street South, Fergus on Tuesday, January 9, 2024 from 10-11am, with a service to be held in the funeral home chapel at 11am. Following the service, guests are invited upstairs to the Wellington Room for a time of fellowship and refreshments. Elevator access is available. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice Wellington, Groves Memorial Hospital or to the charity of your choice.
