Waind, Hugh Maitland of Elora. Passed away peacefully after a brief illness at St. Mary’s Hospital in Kitchener August 7, 2013 in his 80th year. Survived by his wife of 54 years Phyllis (nee: Chambers), son Tom (Mary Dianne), daughter Cathe Watters (Buster), and son William (Carolyn). Proud grandfather of Thomas, Phillip, Jacob, Alison, Graham and Colin. Brother to Paul of Hamilton and Mary of Elora and brother-in-law of Beth Chambers of Bridgenorth. Predeceased by his parents H. Carman Waind and Jean Maitland Waind, brother-in-law Dave Chambers and sister-in-law Barbara Waind. Hugh was proud to be a life-long resident of Elora. He was a fixture on the main street of Elora as an Insurance Broker from 1953 until his passing. He was a member of the Elora Lions Club (Melvin Jones Fellow), former Elora Citizen of the Year, and always willing to lend a hand in the community. Hugh’s interests included curling, hunting, fishing and people. He was a true and loyal friend to so many. Family meant everything to him, and he was happiest when he could arrange a special occasion to gather. The cottage that Hugh and Phyllis built on Redstone Lake was his haven, where many happy days were spent with family and friends. Visitation was held at The Graham Giddy Funeral Home, 37 Church St Elora, from 2-4 and 7-9pm on Sunday, August 11th. The funeral service was held at the Elora United Church, 75 Geddes St, Elora, on Monday, August 12th at 2pm followed by a reception.
