VAN SOEST, Bertha Jane (nee Poortinga), 1940 – 2017, of Drayton passed away peacefully at the St. Mary’s General Hospital, Kitchener on Monday, April 24, 2017 at the age of 76. Beloved wife of the late John Van Soest (2003). Cherished mother of Irene and George Feddema of Kitchener, John and Wendy Van Soest of Auburn, Sue and Stan Brudnicki of Goderich, Jeff and Yvonne Van Soest of Hensall and Barb and Gary Kuper of Listowel. Nana will be fondly remembered by Jeff Feddema (Jenny), Josh Feddema (Amy), Robyn MacEwen (James), Jon Van Soest (Laura), Isaac, Caleb and Sam Van Soest, Beth Ma (Arden), Rebecca Hibma (Brad), Brock, Connor, Brady and Curtis Van Soest, Haylee, Ry, Matt and Emme Kuper. Great Nana of Jayden, Carson and Alyvia Van Soest, Sawyer and Reese MacEwen, Zoe and Elsie Feddema and Ezra Feddema. Sister of Jim and Henny Poortinga of Exeter, Clarence and Pat Poortinga of Brussels, Henry and Hilly Poortinga of Exeter and Jayne Wielinga of Flint Michigan. Sister-in-law of Mary and Jerry deBoer of Exeter, Shirley and Greg Hammond of Moorefield, Dorothy Rozema of High River, Alberta and Jack and Mary Van Soest of Dryden. Fondly remembered by her nieces, nephews and friends. Bertha was a true farmers wife by helping alongside the love of her life John on the 8th concession of Maryborough Township. She worked in the Drayton and Palmerston Libraries and had a true passion for books. In her later years she loved volunteering in the Kindergarten Class at the Community Christian School. More recently she enjoyed the coffee socials with her condo family. Predeceased by her parents, her step mother and step sister Wilma. The family received friends at the Drayton Christian Reformed Church 88 Main Street Drayton, on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Private family interment in Drayton Cemetery. Pastor Paul Droogers conducted the Celebration of Life in the Drayton Christian Reformed Church on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. As expressions of sympathy donation to the Community Christian School Drayton would be appreciated by the family.
