Cherished father of Janet and Dan Scheele of Woodstock, Doreen and Maarten Kenter of Woodstock, Carol and Gord Vellenga of Paris, and Gary and Sherry Ann Van Ankum of Arthur. Loved grandfather of 16 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren and 2 on the way. Fondly remembered by his brothers, sisters-in-law and brother-in-law Sonja Van Ankum, Mildred Jean Van Ankum, Arnold and Jayne Van Ankum, Jake and Marlene Van Ankum, Jan Evenboer and Klaasje de Boer. Predeceased by his parents Arend and Janna Van Ankum, brothers John, Hilbert, and Allan Van Ankum, sisters-in-law Janneke Van Ankum, Jean Van Ankum, Annie Evenboer, and brother-in-law Arend Jan de Boer. Uncle George (Oom Geert) will be missed by many nieces and nephews in Canada and in the Netherlands. Dad loved his family, and enjoyed their visits. He also found pleasure and purpose in visiting his many friends and neighbours. Emigrating from Holland in 1960, Dad was a forward-thinking pig farmer in Arthur. He was very involved in his church and community, volunteering many years with Mom at the Canadian Diabetes Association. In his retirement years in Drayton, he created many items in his woodworking shop that will be treasured by his children and grandchildren. Thank you to all the wonderful healthcare professionals who assisted Dad in the last few months. In lieu of flowers, donations to Diabetes Canada or the Palmerston Hospital MRI campaign would be appreciated. The family received friends on Monday, April 7, 2025 from 2:00pm – 4:00pm and 6:00pm – 8:00pm at the Drayton Reformed Church, 74 Wellington Street South, Drayton. The Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, April 8, at 11:00am in the Drayton Reformed Church, 74 Wellington Street South, Drayton.
