TOBIN, Barry Gerard

October 4, 1957 - July 23, 2024

Of Harriston passed away at Palmerston Hospital on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, in his 67th year. Fun and loving husband of Cheryl (Reidt) Tobin. Father of Crystal & Derek Howat, and Ryan Tobin & Nicole Husnik, and stepfather of Shelly Sanderson and Bonnie Sanderson. Grandfather of Deacon, Dante, and Alexzandra. Son-in-law of Margaret Reidt. Brother of Geraldine Picco of Oshawa, Linda Hayward, Ray Tobin, Rhoda Tobin, Valerie Wilson, Paula Tobin, Goldie Tobin, and Connie Barrow, all of Newfoundland, and Jerry Tobin of Alberta. Loved and remembered also by his many nieces and nephews. Friend of Jordan Boyle and his wife Lauren. He was “Papa Barry” to their boys, Jett and Hayes. Predeceased by his parents Jeremiah & Mary Magdalen (O’Neil) Tobin, his father-in-law Arnold Reidt, and by his sisters Yvonne Cheater and Sharon Tobin. Barry was born in Trepassey, Newfoundland on October 4, 1957. His early years were spent on fishing boats working with his father and started working in construction during his twenties, which he did in some capacity for the remainder of his working days. Barry always loved having a drink with friends, preferably outdoors. He was always pacing the floor instead of sitting down, always a go-er, and his favourite saying was “pitter-patter, let’s get at ‘er.” He was the first person to be there to help anyone with anything. He was always loyal and dependable. Barry loved east coast music as well as John Prime, Jim Croce, and Cat Stevens. The Celebration of Barry’s life will be held at Harriston Legion on Saturday, October 12, 2024, from 1:00 until 4:00pm, with a time of sharing at 2:00pm. Interment in Clifford Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations to Palmerston Hospital or the War Amps would be appreciated, and may be made through the Hardy-Lee Funeral Home, Harriston.
