Peter Richard Tait of Listowel passed away at Fordwich Village Nursing Home on Sunday, January 7, 2024, in his 80th year. Husband of Marlene (Sachs) Tait for 49 years. Father of Bill Tait of Listowel. Brother of Lyn & Bob Campbell of High River, AB, and Diane & Albert Hayes of Fergus, and brother-in-law of Sandra & Leonard Fleischmann of Listowel, and Robert & Jane Sachs of Morrisburg. Predeceased by his sister Judy Bellamy & her husband Don. Peter grew up in Fergus where he worked first at Howes & Reeves then Beatty Brothers Ltd. He taught grade 7 science for a year in Salem, and then moved to Listowel where he worked at Chrysler Dodge and then the Canadian Tire Parts Department for 23½ years. Peter served with the Fergus Fire Department from 1969 to 1971, and the Listowel Fire Department from 1976 to 1997. He enjoyed lacrosse and playing the bugle, racing and all things automotive, and playing Scrooge at Canadian Tire. His humour, energy, and wisdom will be greatly missed. A Celebration of Peter’s life was held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Listowel, on Saturday, January 13, 2023 at 11:00am, with visitation one hour prior and reception that followed. Memorial donations to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Listowel, or the Lung Association would be appreciated and may be made through the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel.
