Passed away peacefully at Derbecker’s Heritage Home in St. Jacob’s in her 89th year. Predeceased by her husband Albert (aka. Sandy) of 47 years. Carol is survived by her daughter Bonnie (Norman) and her son, William (Kim). She will also be missed by her many grandchildren, including Christopher (Laura), Linda, Ashley, Calee (James) and Andy (Zac). She will also be missed by her great grandchildren Cora, Evan, Abbey, Amber, Sofi, Brea, Hazel and Nathan. Carol was born in Elmira to Heward and Corah Schutz, and grew up with her brother Robert and sisters Beatrice and Anne. She married Sandy in 1953, and settled in Salem soon after. She held many jobs throughout her life, including running Carol’s Lunch on Mill Street in Elora. Sandy and Carol were active members of the local 229 Legion Branch and Women’s Auxiliary. She also volunteered her time at the Wellington Terrace and was a member of local Al-Anon groups. Sandy and Carol enjoyed traveling, including trips to Florida, Scotland and the Rockies. Carol loved spending time with family and friends, and will be remembered for her infectious laugh, how she loved to share jokes, and watched her kids, grandkids and great grandkids in their various sports, plays and extra curricular activities. Carol also loved to play cards, games and often attended bible study at Knox Presbyterian Church in Elora. She loved a good coffee or tea with family and friends, made some amazing shortbread and knitted many a facecloth for family members at Christmas. Arrangements are entrusted to Graham A. Giddy Funeral Homes. A private family service was held on Tuesday, April 9, 2024 in Fergus, followed by interment at the Elora Cemetery.
