Of Guelph, Ontario peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, at Guelph General Hospital, on Monday, November 20, 2023 in his 95th year. Beloved father of Michael (Wendy), Mark (Sam) and Paula (Greg). Devoted husband of 70 years to the love of his life, Barbara Alvina (Wey). Sadly missed by sister Yvonne, brothers Jean (Marie), and John, three generations of grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends. Predeceased by father William, mother Doris and brothers Grant, Paul and Edward. As Mike lived his whole life in Guelph, he knew the city well and always loved it. A man of many passions known for his high energy, wonderful smile and compassion, “Sparky” never shied from hard work and loved to help others. He retired at age 80 after over 40 years at Imperial Optical and almost 20 years running his own successful business, Steffler Hearing Aid Service, where he cared for his clients as if they were family. He was proud to serve his community as a civilian scuba diver for the police, a walker for St John’s Ambulance and a member of the Knights of Columbus and the local Kiwanis club. He was also devoted to Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Mike instilled in his family many traits from curiosity, a strong work ethic, a sense of humour and mischief, as well as stubbornness and a “don’t quit” attitude, for which they are all grateful.
