To family and friends we would like to let you know our cherished husband and father, David Smith, passed away this weekend. He passed peacefully and with family by his side on June 29, 2019, at the Village of Riverside Glen in Guelph, Ontario. Beloved husband of Margaret Claire Jane Smith (nee: Perry) of 63 years. Loving Dad of Nancy Jane (Dana) Lowes, Sheila Ann Smith (Tom Fair) and Sandra Caroline Smith. Cherished Grandpa of Devon Lowes. Predeceased by infant son Gregory Smith and sisters, June Golberg, Mary Smith, Fay Dodds, Iris White, Shirley Kent and Noelle Sim. He will be missed by many nieces and nephews and his special furry friend Mandy. David was a Professor at the University of Guelph, in the Botany Department for many years. Following his retirement he applied his life-long devotion to growing apple trees and created Eramosa Orchard just north of Guelph. In his spare time, he had a passion for carpentry, nature, gardening as well as for his family and his many furry friends, in particular his dogs. David’s caring personality, smile and sense of humour will be missed by many. Family and friends are invited to visit at the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home, 280 St. David St. South, Fergus on Thursday, July 11, 2019 from 1:00 to 3:00pm, followed by a Graveside Service at Belsyde Cemetery, Thistle St., Fergus at 3:00pm. Memorial donations may be made to B.R.E.A.T.H.E – The Lung Association or a charity of choice.
