Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, September 21, 1941 (82), Ken married Christine in June 1963 and, in September 1964 the two embarked on their adventure by emigrating to Canada. They raised three boys Neil (Sondra), Scott (Shannon) and Craig (Danielle). Ken originally worked as a member of lBEW 804, eventually discovering his life’s work and in 1976 founded his business, Simpson Lightning Rods, designing and installing lightning protection systems on residential and commercial structures in Ontario. Ken finally retired from the business which is now being run by sons Neil and Scott. Busy though he was, he always had time to be with his boys at their hockey, baseball, soccer and lacrosse games as well as coaching soccer teams in Rockwood. In his retirement, Ken travelled to Europe and Japan and enjoyed winter trips to Florida, but his main enjoyment remained working outdoors and in his vegetable garden. He loved keeping up with the activities of his five grandchildren, Liam, Bryn, Isla, Maren and Carrick, and watching their hockey games. He is survived by a brother in South Africa and a sister in England. He passed quietly and peacefully in his sleep in the home he built himself over 50 years ago. His down-to-earth approach to life, his humour and willingness to go the extra mile will be sorely missed by his wife of 60 years, his children, their partners and his beloved grandchildren. He will remain with us forever. Memorial donations may be made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation or to a charity of choice.
