Was born in 1935 on the family homestead on the edge of Waterloo, the eldest of five children. In 1961 he married Ruth Jantzi, his faithful partner through nearly 62 years of happy life together. The Lord blessed their union with four children. In 1967 they bought a dairy farm at Drayton where Lyall farmed for 15 years. Unfortunately, ill health due to rheumatoid arthritis forced him to give up farming. In the years that followed, one of his great joys was driving school bus which he continued doing until he was well past 70. He and Ruth were faithful and active members of Community Mennonite Fellowship (formerly Berea Mennonite) for more than 55 years where he also served in many capacities. Lyall was a quiet, reflective man who enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, like desserts and family games, watching birds, traveling, but most of all time spent with his extended family. The Lord suddenly called him to his heavenly home on Apr 27, 2023 after a very brief illness. Lyall is survived by his loving wife Ruth, his sons Kevin (Sharon), Dale (Melodie), Randy (Karen) and his daughter, Luanne Noble (Corrie). Also deeply loved by his eleven grandchildren—Beth, Tory, Alex, Matt, Steven (deceased), Hanika, Jemcah, Domonique, Micayla, Joel and Samantha and three great grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings Marlene Suter (Dave), Leroy (Carol), Gladys Bender (Robert), sister-in-law Pam, brother-in-law Paul (Hanne). Predeceased by his parents Jesse and Susannah and brother Harold. Lyall’s family received family and friends at Community Mennonite Fellowship, 109 Wellington Street S., Drayton on Sunday, April 30, 2023 from 2:00 to 4:00pm and Monday, May 1, 2023 from 7:00 – 9:00pm. The Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at Community Mennonite Fellowship at 2:00pm. Interment to follow at Drayton Victoria Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations to MCC Canada or Conestoga Bible Camp are appreciated and can be made through Heritage Funeral Home, Drayton. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Palmerston Hospital and the ICU unit of Guelph General Hospital for the care they gave to Lyall in the past week.
