SHANNON, Bruce

September 10, 1949 - December 7, 2023

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of H. Bruce Shannon at his home in Clifford, on Thursday, December 7, 2023, in his 75th year. Husband of Margaret (Sothern) Shannon. Father of Michael and Janice Tuck-Shannon, Brianna and Kurtis Dykstra, and Ian Shannon and Laura Harrison.  Grandfather of Macy, Alvina, Leah, Olivia, and Madelyn. Brother of Jim and Susan Shannon, Sharon and Bruce Kaufman, Gerald and Susan Shannon, Jack and Wilma Shannon, Dave and Elaine Shannon, and brother-in-law of Robert Koeslag, Lynda Shannon, and Gordon and Velma Sothern. Predeceased by sister Bonnie Koeslag, brothers Larry Shannon and Wayne Shannon, parents Edward and Norma (Chambers) Shannon, parents-in-law Arnetta and Bruce Sothern, and sister-in-law and brother-in-law Pauline and Bill Weber. Born on September 10, 1949, Bruce was one of nine children and raised on a farm in Drew. He began farming full time at the age of 16 after his father passed away and the family farm needed tending. At 20 years old he met his beautiful wife to be, Margaret. They farmed together for 50 years and raised 3 children on their dairy farm. His passion for farm life never waned. There were many trips across Canada, the U.S. and Ireland that included visiting other dairy farms, and Bruce always made sure to read every issue of the Ontario Farmer. Bruce was a career volunteer and was involved in many organizations including Wellington County Dairy Committee, Wellington Federation of Agriculture, Harriston-Minto Ag. Society, Minto Recreation Committee, Drew Community Centre Board, Clifford Pastoral Charge, North-Wellington Co-op Board of Directors, and Clifford Food Bank. He grew up loving baseball. He played on local fastball and slowpitch teams and was a founding member of the Drew Swamp Monsters. Bruce devoted many hours to coaching the youth teams in the community.  He filled his winter months with curling and snowmobiling. Through all Bruce’s time spent working, playing and volunteering, nothing was more important to him than his family. Visitation was held at the Hardy-Lee Funeral Home, Harriston on Saturday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00pm. The funeral service was held at Knox United Church, Clifford, on Sunday, December 10 at 2:00pm, with reception that followed in Clifford Community Hall. Memorial donations to Knox United Church, Clifford, or the Lung Association would be appreciated. Online condolences may be left at www.hardyleefuneralhome.com
