Joan departed her loving family and returned home to the “Father” on Thursday, December 8th, 2022, in her 91st year. Mother was born in Kitchener, ON on October 3rd, 1932, to Gertrude and Edward Stuempfle, and was the youngest of five children. Joan is mother to Kimberly Crawford (the late Jack), Cameron Schumacher, Kelly Leeder (Marv), Katherine Boehme (Jens) and Corey Schumacher (partner Bobby Basso). She raised her children with love and devotion with her late husband of 52 years, Lorne. Mom was a proud grandmother to Christopher, Johnathan, Erick, Jocelyn and Danielle. She also was graced by becoming a great grandmother in April of this year to Olivia. 42 great years were spent at the cottage on Belwood Lake. Many great themed get togethers were hosted by the Schumacher’s. Joan worked for 13 years as administrative assistant to Dr. Peter Newberry of Fergus, ON, and was honored to volunteer at Groves Memorial Hospital for 15 years. You could often find her delivering TVs or working in the gift shop. Joan was a member of the Catholic Women’s League of Fergus for 37 yrs. Mother spent many years running the bake table at the annual Church Bazaar and knitting many mitts and toques for charity. Mom was an avid golfer with her husband Lorne and spent the winter as snowbirds in Florida for a number of happy years. She was a positive influence on everyone she encountered and enjoyed life immensely. The Roman Catholic Rite of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s RC Church, 760 St. David St. N., Fergus, ON, Tuesday, December 20th, 2022, at 11am. Cremation has taken place and a private family interment will be scheduled at a later date. Many thanks to the superb staff and volunteers at Wellington Terrace, Fergus, ON, for their endless love and care of Joan while she resided with them. As expressions of sympathy and in lieu of flowers, the family would greatly appreciate donations to be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada.
