SCHIEBEL, Mary Louise (Schill)

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Mary Louise Schiebel. Mary died peacefully after a lengthy struggle with a number of health issues. She was in her 88th year, and is survived by her daughters Beth (Tim) McCabe, Paula (Martin) Keogh, and Carolyn (John) Cybulski, her grandson Ian (Gabrielle) McCabe, and her sister-in-law Geraldine Schill. She is predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Cos Schiebel; her grandsons, Chris and Stuart; her parents Sylvester and Prescilla Schill; and her nine siblings: Esther (Casey) Sagan, Ralph (Betty) Schill, Oscar (Marg) Schill, Harold (Dorothy) Schill, Rose (Werner) Weikert, Betty (Gord) Biggar, Ruth (Willie) Lorch, Lily (Jim) Lippard, and Clifford Schill. Mom leaves a legacy of a strong work ethic and the importance of family. She and Dad farmed for many years in Kenilworth, Ontario. At the same time, she held down a full-time job as a counsellor at Midwestern Regional Centre. Upon her retirement, she and Dad moved to Elliot Lake, where Mom continued to work as a volunteer at the Renaissance Centre. She also embraced a wide spectrum of new hobbies, including bridge, tai chi, and quilting. After Dad died in 2005, Mom became a world traveller, visiting such exotic locales as the Caribbean, Alaska, and China. She greatly enjoyed cruising, and once dared an intrepid road trip across Canada with three friends to embark upon a cruise from Vancouver. After health issues curtailed her travels, she moved to Guelph to be closer to family. We are grateful for the caring support she found at both the Royal on Gordon Retirement Residence and Riverside Glen Long Term Care. We also thank Dr. Ellen Lee and the staff at Riverside Glen for their compassionate care of Mom during her final months. Arrangements have been entrusted to Graham Giddy Funeral Services in Fergus. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada would be appreciated.
