Sargent, Mary (Meiklejohn); Passed away peacefully at Wellington Terrace on December 20th, 2013 in her 93rd year. Mary was the beloved wife of the late John E. Sargent (April 2012). Survived by her children Bob (Doreen) of Elora, Doug of Palmerston, daughter-in-law Mary of Belwood, Patricia and friend Mary Capper of Carleton Place. Lovingly remembered by grandchildren – Trevor (Tammy) of Elmira and David (Debbie) of Hawkesville and by her great grandchildren Maggie, Annie, Emily and Kayla. Fondly remembered by several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents John and Annie Meiklejohn and by sisters Joanna Nevills (Ken), Annie Osburn (George) and her brother Bob Meiklejohn. Mary was born in Perthshire, Scotland in 1921 and emigrated with her family in 1927 to Canada, settling on a farm on the 10th Line of Maryborough Township. Mary, with her siblings, attended elementary school north of Drayton and secondary school in Drayton. After graduating, Mary kept house for families in the Fergus and Belwood areas, when she met the love of her life Jack. They were married on October 10, 1942 and farmed north of Belwood until 1977. Mary was a dedicated worker at St. John`s United Church, Belwood and was involved with choir, WA and UCW. Mary`s family wish to thank the staff at Wellington Terrace for their loving care during mom`s stay there. Thanks also to Dr. Stickney for his dedication to Mom`s health for many years. Visitation was held at the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home, 280 St. David Street S, Fergus on Monday, December 23rd, 2013 from 6:00 – 9:00 pm and at St. John`s United Church, Queen St, Belwood on Tuesday, December 24th, 2013 from 10:00 – 11:00 am.
