Maaike married Arend on October 31, 1951 in Arnhem and on February 18, 1952 they left Holland and emigrated to Canada taking up residence in Ormstown, Quebec. A move to Lindsay to join other family members in Ontario followed as did the births of Maaike’s and Arend’s 3 children. The years that followed she supported Arend in his career, raised her family, and kept connected to the extended family while moving between Lindsay, Peterborough, Collingwood, and eventually settling in Guelph after retirement. Faith and family were the big influences in her life and she was always looking for opportunities to help others. Her relaxation time was spent in the garden or knitting and sewing or immersed in a good book. Many thanks to the staff at Eden House for the excellent and compassionate care she received while there. Cremation has taken place at her request and a celebration of life and committal service will take place at Memory Gardens Funeral Home & Cemetery, Breslau on Saturday September 28, 2019.
