Dear Grandmother of 9 grandchildren- Kelly, Kristen, Lindsay (Dave), Jaimee (Matt), Adrienne, Brendon, Cindy, Robyn and Thomas (Priscilla) and 4 great-grandchildren- Henley, River, Maelie and Theo. Remembered fondly by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents William and Martha Caton, sister Audrey Pelletier and brothers Brian and Geoffrey Caton and their spouses. She was born in Liverpool, UK and moved to Canada with her family at a very young age. She lived in Valois, Pointe-Claire and Dollard des Ormeaux in Quebec and then moved her family to Guelph, Ontario in 1979. She moved to Elora in 2013 when her health required her to relocate into a retirement home, and enjoyed many years at Heritage River Retirement Home. She moved to Riverside Glen Long Term Care in 2022. The family greatly appreciates all of the PSWs, nursing staff, nutritionists, physio therapists, pastoral care providers and support staff that made mom’s life at Riverside so fulfilling. We want to especially thank Jacqueline, Cherry, Meghan, Susan, Kaitlin and Tes for all the extra comfort and support they gave mom throughout her time at Riverside Glen in Mapleton neighbourhood. Know that you are all appreciated. Mom was an active woman. She enjoyed all activities around her life in the Anglican church over the years, including involvement in the ACW, altar guild, knitting and crocheting for various charities and fundraisers- all culminating with the great honour of receiving the Order of Niagara in 2001 while she was an active member of St. Matthias in Guelph. She was an avid knitter and quilter and enjoyed an active participation in The Evergreen Seniors Centre in Guelph for many years. She also kept her mind active with participation in Third Age learning opportunities at the University of Guelph for many years. At Maureen’s request cremation has taken place. There will be no funeral or memorial service at this time. A private family graveside service will be scheduled for a later date to allow Maureen’s family from near and far to gather in her memory. Arrangements entrusted to the Wall-Custance Funeral Home & Chapel 519-822-0051 / www.wallcustance.com. Memorial donations to St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church in Elora or Canadian Food for Children charity in Mississauga would be greatly appreciated by the family. A tree will be planted in memory of Maureen Reid in the Wall-Custance Memorial Forest.
