Randall, Mary Miriam Joan (Glenny)

Randall, Mary Miriam Joan (Glenny); Mary passed away peacefully in Hamilton on Sunday, July 29, 2012, in her 92nd year. The daughter of Thomas Russell Glenny and Gertrude Rose Townsend, Mary was born in Toronto on January 19, 1921. She was predeceased by her dear brother, John, and is survived by her loving sisters, the Glenny girls: Ruth (late Dewey) Stevens, Shirley (late David) Clark, Norma (late Bill) Richardson, and Nan (late Roy) Floyd. As the eldest of a fine family of six children, Mary necessarily took on significant child-rearing and domestic responsibilities for her younger siblings. In 1942, she married Claude (deceased in 1998) and moved to Hamilton – a city she came to love – where they raised two sons, Gordon (Ann) and Wayne (Dianne). Mary was so proud of her boys and their children, Kerrie, Jodie, and Scott, as well as her great-grandchildren, MaryJane, Peyton, and Ella. Mary was an outstanding homemaker, caregiver, seamstress, knitter, and baker. She would boldly take on almost any new project, including painting and ceramics. However, Mary’s family was, above all, the centre of her world and she shone in the role of daughter, sister, wife, and mother. Her sons and family have been the beneficiaries of that loving commitment. Mary remained perceptive and incisive until her final few days, always taking the positive, “can do” approach to dealing with the bumps encountered along life’s road, guided by the Golden Rule. In her final years, Mary lived happily with her friends at Idlewyld Manor in Hamilton, and was strongly supported there by an assembly of dear and committed staff members. Their efforts created an atmosphere that, each day, presented both pleasure and opportunity to Mary. Respecting Mary’s expressed wishes, cremation has taken place. A family get-together to celebrate her life is being planned.
