PELOSO, Peter

Dr. Peter Peloso passed away with his family present at Groves Memorial Hospital, Friday, November 5, 2021 at the age of 90. Born in Guelph in 1931 to Gerunzio and Angelina (Ghegin) Peloso. He attended Sacred Heart School and Guelph Collegiate Institute. He then studied at the University of Toronto and graduated as a dentist in 1956. He practiced dentistry in Guelph for 3 years. Then he returned to University of Toronto and received his Orthodontic specialty in 1961. Peter worked as an orthodontist in Kitchener for three decades. He lectured in the Graduate Dental Department at the University of Toronto. Predeceased by his parents, his sisters Hiole and Roseanne (Joe Mills), his brothers Severino (Lorraine Tremblay) and Dino (Donna). He is a beloved brother of Nora (the late Frank Michelucci), Hugh (Audrey), and Jean (Ray Dipplehofer). Peter was also close with his many nieces and nephews, sometimes offering a shoulder as “the favourite uncle”. Peter married Barbara Weber in 1976. Peter is the much loved father of Andrea Peloso, Matthew Peloso (Yannix Cane) and Robert Peloso (Milena Urbanajc). He is the grandfather of Aliya and Maria Helena. A friend to all, Peter was dearly loved by his family, many friends and extended family. Peter loved life, family, hard work and faith and enjoyed sports. He had a deep spiritual life and a passion for sharing wonderful moments with friends and family from skiing to cards, tennis, beach going, song and conversation. Blessed with gentleness and goodness he touched many lives. He had a wonderful sense of humour and put many a smile on the faces of his friends and family. He donated dental services to those in need as part of his time spent at Madonna House. He completed a Masters in Ministry and Spirituality at Regis College, University of Toronto. He became involved with the Jesuits community in Guelph. He gave spiritual direction to many at his home and at Loyola Retreat Centre. He was one of the pillars and founders of Christian Life Community in Canada, an organization devoted to the lived experience of lgnatian Spirituality. A committed environmentalist Peter loved trees and planted thousands of them, as well as establishing a wetland enjoyed by friends and family. He protected Elora water as a water defender against bottled water and helped establish a protected forest – a new old growth forest at the Ignatius Jesuit Center. The family is deeply grateful for the care provided by Dr. David Brault and the support of the staff at the Elora Medical Group. Thanks also to Shelley Lilly and the palliative team of Centre Wellington. In his last days, he was provided with compassion and expert care at Groves Memorial Hospital. Arrangements are entrusted to the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home, Elora. A visitation and funeral mass will be held in the New Year.
