PALMER, John Gerald “Gerry”; of R.R. # 2 Moorefield passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 in his 75th year. Beloved husband of Doris Palmer (Sim) for 54 years. Cherished father of Bonnie and her husband Murray Grein of Ayton; Brenda and her husband Eric Grandy of Palmerston and Cheryl and her husband Mark Jennings of Palmerston. Dear grandfather of Denica and her husband Jonathon Hopkins of Allan Park; Taddum Grein and Jenna of Walkerton; Renee Grandy and Ryan Grandy; Cody Toner and Madison Jennings all of Palmerston. Great grandfather of Gabrielle, Zoey, Grayson, Cala, Brenna and Aiden. Brother of Sharon and Bill Smith of Calgary. Step brother of Velma and Ron Smart of Owen Sound. Brother-in-law of Betty Sulkye, Norma Sim and Lois and Ron Reay, all of Durham. Also remembered by the extended Sim family, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Predeceased by his parents Elmer and Velma (Grant) Palmer; Sister Betty Lou and Brother Murray; Mother-in-law Myrtle Sim and father-in-law William Sim; Brothers-in-law Howard Sulkye, John Sim, Gordon Sim and Raymond “Peanut” Sim and nephew Rick Sulkye. Gerry was a long time employee of the Murray Group for 32 years until his retirement in 2004. He was a man who enjoyed the simple pleasures in life such as a cold beer in the company of friends and family as he relaxed at their trailer at River Place for the past 26 years. To honour Gerry’s wishes cremation has taken place. The family received friends at the Heritage Funeral Home, Palmerston on Friday, June 27, 2014. A Memorial Service of Remembrance was held in the Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. As expressions of sympathy donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family. Interment in Hillcrest Cemetery, Tara.
