It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Agnes Ruth Olive (nee Mooney). She was born on May 5, 1934 in Fergus, Ontario and left us on August 12, 2020 in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. Agnes is survived by her three children, Stephen Olive (Kathleen), Michael Olive (Susan) and Caron Olive; grandchildren Derek, Trevor, Alyssa and Alex; sisters Doris Stahlbaum, Janet McLaughlin; sister-in-law Helen Mooney, and many nieces and nephews. Pre-deceased by her brother Gordon Mooney, sister Mary Skrzek, and parents Rosella and Matthew Mooney. Agnes lived her life to the fullest. Her creative, adventurous and independent spirit took her on many journeys and explorations throughout her life. As a professional artist, her career spanned over forty years of creative expression. Agnes graduated from Sheridan College School of Design, Ontario. She successfully operated the Forge Studio Gallery in Terra Cotta for over twenty years, where she worked primarily in raku pottery. It was during a residency in Pakistan in the mid-1980s that she began with paper making, a medium she continued with for many years. Always interested in the creative journey, Agnes often said her muses guided her art – thought provoking pieces that explore spirit, connection and oneness. Her art has been exhibited in galleries and shows internationally, and she has been the recipient of several awards. Agnes took great pride in supporting other artists, some with their first show in her gallery, including her son Mike, and later mentoring others to help find their own muse and path. Agnes worked always with respect, humour and humility to the person and process. An explorer at heart, Agnes enjoyed travelling to many parts of the world and learning about other cultures. She was thrilled to share her travels and activities with her friends and family. When not engaged with writers groups or conferences, you could find her volunteering at festivals or teaching ESL to young women. She stayed committed to a lifelong yoga and spiritual practice, and enjoyed walking in nature and going to movies with friends. She began writing poetry and short stories. Agnes walked her own path with humility, humour and grace. She will forever remain with us in our hearts. Due to COVID-19, a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
