NIEUWHOF, Akke “Agnes” (Bakker)

March 5, 1937 - January 1, 2024

Agnes was the loving wife of the late Minne Nieuwhof (2020) and the dear mother of Clarence Nieuwhof (Diane), Weybrandt  Nieuwhof (1971), Wilma Flinkert (Brent), and Mike Nieuwhof (Suzanne). She was the cherished grandmother “Nanny” of Justin Mol (Becky), Colin Mol (Ashley), Chelsey Nieuwhof (Brooks Weber), Quinton Mol (Stephanie), Trevor Nieuwhof, and Steven Nieuwhof. The beloved great-grandmother of Annebelle Sabourin, Declan Mol, Aurora Mol, Oaklynn Weber, Hailey Mol, Eden Mol, John Mol and Lily Mol. Predeceased by her parents, Herman and Wilhemena Bakker, and all her siblings: Wim Bakker (Willie), Jenny Bakker, Aukje Bakker, Wiebrandt Bakker and Johan Bakker (Ria). Agnes will continue to be fondly remembered by the Nieuwhof family and friends in Canada and the Netherlands. Having been born deaf, Agnes entered this world in complete silence but went home to her Saviour hearing; thanks to the miracles God provides through the wonders of science. Mom immigrated to Canada in the early 60s to marry the one true love of her live – Minne Nieuwhof. Here she learned not only how to speak English but also to lipread it – she was self-taught. Mom was also an accomplished pianist and artist. She used her gift of music to glorify God, playing for many choirs and weekly church services. Mom also learned to play classical music despite being deaf. Mom & Dad faced many challenges over the years but always committed their ways to God. The loss of their 2nd son at the age of 4 left a huge hole in their hearts. They chose to give that empty chasm to Christ and God daily. He in turn filled it with an outpouring of His love that they demonstrated by the caring and sharing of themselves. Mom’s latter years were filled with physical debilitating pain but that never once impeded her ability to be a bold and constant witness for Christ. Her faithfulness impacted many lives – ours included. To God be the glory great things He has done through our mother, nanny, great-nanny and friend. To honour Agnes’s wishes cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends at the Drayton Reformed Church, 74 Wellington Street, South, Drayton on Thursday, January 4, 2024 from 6:00 to 8:00pm. A Memorial Service of Remembrance will be held in the Drayton Reformed Church on Friday, January 5, 2024 at 11:00am.
