MILLER, Robert George

June 13, 1939 - September 27, 2023

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Robert (Bob) Miller, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, at Groves Community Hospital, Fergus, on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at the age of 84. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 54 years, Carolyn (Robb), his son Andrew and daughter Pamela and her husband, Colin Cameron and his grandchildren Lillian and Charlie. He also leaves his brothers William (Bill) and his wife Pat, and Art and his wife Mary, his sister Marion and her husband Jim Bolender, and many nieces and nephews. Bob grew up on the family farm on the 8th Line of Peel Township and attended school in Drayton and in Arthur. He worked for many years at Uniroyal Chemical in Elmira (formerly Naugatuck, now Lanxess) as a Lab Technician. All his life Bob enjoyed the outdoors, especially canoe trips to Algonquin Park, fishing and hunting, as well as hiking and bicycling. He was involved for many years with the Elora and Salem Horticulture Society, the Fergus Camera Club, and was a member of the Elora Racquets Club since its beginning, taking part on one of the tennis teams as well as enjoying competitive squash. He was also an avid Scrabble player! During vacation time the family travelled across Canada, visiting every province from the East Coast to the West Coast, camping in our country’s wonderful provincial and national parks. In the 90s Bob and Carolyn began back-packing trips to many European countries, as well as Turkey and Tunisia, where Bob enjoyed touring the archeological sites, museums, and art galleries and very much experiencing the wonderful food in each country. After they both retired they began taking guided walking holidays to England and Europe, enjoying the countryside, rain or shine, in each beautiful location. Bob will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather who has given us so many happy memories. As per Bob’s wishes, Cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at 1pm at the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home, 280 St. David Street South, Fergus. Following the Celebration of Life, guests are invited upstairs to the Wellington Room for a time of fellowship and refreshments. Elevator access is available. A private interment will be held by the family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Groves Memorial Hospital or The Aboyne Rural Hospice.
