MILES, Ernest “George”

MILES, Ernest “George”; It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden peaceful passing of Ernest George Miles of Swan River, MB and formerly of Harlington School District on August 24, 2014. George was born in Arthur, Ontario on July 3, 1937 to William & Francis (Jacobsen) Miles. George married Doreen Bowles in 1976 at the Bowles family farm in the Harlington School district near Swan River, MB. After the wedding, George and Doreen left Ontario for the land that he had fallen in love with, (where he also fell in love with Doreen) taking over the Bowles family farm. There George and Doreen made a life, and a home for their children. Evan, Adair, Megan and Sam. Megan being the only girl, lovingly became “Daddy’s girl” as they shared a special bond as only fathers and daughters can share. George not only opened his heart to family but to anyone in need. Teaching his boys to be strong but kind in life. A proud accomplishment for George was winning several awards for quality in the swine industry. George was a 2nd generation farmer, whose family immigrated to Ontario from Wales in the 1920s. George’s favourite hobby was woodworking. He loved to make fine furniture for neighbours, family and friends. For which he won an award from the Canadian Workshop magazine for an entertainment unit, in the style of a dry sink. George spent many years volunteering for the local 4-H Club. Teaching many youth valuable skills such as woodworking and small engine repair. George enjoyed family get-togethers and was happiest when surrounded by his children and grandchildren. George was often known as a “Jack of all trades”, and jokingly said “master of none”. But for George’s family he was a sounding board. Giving advice that was both kind and truthful, but never offered unless solicited. In the fall of 2008, George and Doreen retired and moved from the farm into town, where they lived for 6 wonderful years. George is survived by his wife Doreen, his children Evan (Vanessa), Adair (Cyndi), Megan (Clinton) and Sam. George also has 4 beautiful grandchildren Sully, Paige, Carter and Kaylee. George found much enjoyment from watching his grandchildren grow. Also survived by his brother Robert (Bob), sister Jean (Tom Nichlasson); niece and nephews Rob, William, Jim, Valerie, Ryan & Gordon & Barb Bowles, along with their children Pamela and Scott. George is predeceased by his father William and mother Francis (Jacobsen). As well as Doreen’s parents May and Jim Bowles. Funeral was Saturday, August 30th, 2014 at 2:00pm
Gone but not forgotten.
