MCWHIRTER, Aleksa

MCWHIRTER, Aleksa. In Sept of 2015, a beautiful young lady named Aleksa McWhirter was diagnosed with a rare form of brain Cancer called DIPG. We are extremely saddened that on, June 30, 2016, Aleksa McWhirter passed away at home from this disease, 1 day after her 15th birthday surrounded by her family. Aleksa was a beautiful young lady and was just as beautiful inside as she was outside. She was known to most people as Sassy, and that nickname was given to her very young because she was always very “Sassy”. Aleksa loved music, she played guitar, piano and loved to sing. She would want to be remembered as a beautiful young lady that was genuine, kind, funny, smart, witty, generous and just enjoyed life and all it had to offer. This is the impression she left on all of us. No one truly knows what happens after you die, but we believe that Aleksa has a greater purpose. We believe that something bigger than us, recognized her greatness and decided that she was needed for something bigger and better! Whatever that is, we know that she will do great! The emptiness that we feel right now will never be filled but we can find some relief knowing that she is no longer suffering from this terrible disease. Aleksa McWhirter is survived by her father (Kevin McWhirter), mother (Marie-Josée McWhirter), sister (Shanel McWhirter) grandmothers (Suzanne Gamache and Solange Leduc), grandfather (Alain Bois) and cousins, uncles, aunts and many friends. Visitation was held at the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home, Fergus on Thursday July 7 from 2:00 to 4:00pm and 7:00 to 9:00pm. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday July 8 at 11:00am in the chapel of the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations may be made to Meagan’s Walk in Aleksa’s memory. Information available at the funeral home. Aleksa loved life and loved her family and her friends. In our hearts and minds, Aleksa McWhirter will live forever!
