MCNEISH, Alice Sarah (nee Horsburgh)

May 10, 1929 - September 21, 2021

Passed away peacefully in her sleep with son George at her side. Predeceased by her husband Robert (2018). Survived by her sister Anne Yake in Mount Forest. Loving mother to six sons and three daughters; John (Francine), George (Delta), Robert (Kathy), Tom (Lori), Will (Carol), Don (Kristin), Mary Rife (the late Jim), Evelyn Gould (Tim), and Sandra Percy (Karl). Loving grandmother to 23 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren. Alice grew up on a farm near Holstein, Ontario with six siblings. She attended Mount Forest High School and celebrated marriage to her sweetheart, Bob, for 69 years. Alice raised her family of nine children in Kitchener. In her 50’s she learned to swim and became a master swimmer, she played flute in the Kitchener band, and got her driver’s licence. She began writing short stories and became a published author at 90 years old.Alice and her husband, Bob, wintered in Florida for the past 30 years and summered at their cottage near Conn, Ontario. Alice enjoyed music, knitting and crocheting, physical fitness, gardening, and spending time with her family. She had a huge open heart that welcomed and loved everyone who crossed her path. She will be deeply missed. Cremation has taken place. There will be a private graveside ceremony held. A celebration of life will be held next summer – civic holiday weekend – at the family farm near Conn. Everyone is welcome to bring their stories of Alice. Arrangements entrusted to the Wall-Custance Funeral Home & Chapel. Donations in honour of Alice can be made to the Stephen Lewis Foundation or your local food bank. A tree will be planted in memory of Alice S. McNeish in the Wall-Custance Memorial Forest.
