McLEAN, Douglas Keith (Doug)

Died peacefully at Emmanuel House Hospice in Hamilton on Sunday, December 17, 2023 in his 80th year. He was much loved and supported by his wife Pat (Laughlin) and his children Mike and his wife Rebecca and Trish. He will not be forgotten by his grandsons Stewart and Carson with whom he had a special relationship. Doug is also survived by his siblings, Morley (Marg), Shirley Small (Arn), Brian (Tracy), Sheila Eccles (Les) and Larry (Mary Lou) and his large extended family. He was predeceased by his parents, Herb and Luella (Wilson). Doug grew up on the family farm near Conn, Ontario, and went on to work at Bell Canada for over 40 years. He was actively involved with several community organizations: Elmira Maple Syrup Festival Committee, Upper Canada Two Cylinder Club and Friends of John Deere at Country Heritage Park in Milton. Doug and Pat lived in Elmira and raised their family there for more than 45 years before moving to Ancaster to be close to Mike and his family. Although his health has been failing over the past year, as a family we created as many good memories as we could for all of us. Special mention to the McLean family for hosting a family plow day in September at the home farms. Doug was able to drive his old tractors with his grandsons. We also attended Tractor shows, toy shows, had a family vacation in PEI this past summer and we travelled to Tennessee for the Classic Green tractor show. A special thanks to all the family members and friends who visited Doug at Emmanuel House; you made a difference and he appreciated it. We were blessed that space was available at Emmanuel House when we needed it and want to thank the caring and supportive staff and volunteers who work there. A celebration of Doug’s life will be held at 1pm on Sunday, January 14, 2024 at Lions Hall, 40 South St. W., Elmira. Donations in his memory to Emmanuel House Hospice, Trees for Woolwich, Food4kids or a charity of your choice would be appreciated, and may be made through the Dreisinger Funeral Home, Elmira.
