Passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Palmerston & District Hospital on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 in her 92nd year. Wife of the late Norris McLaughlin. Mother of Anne & Earl Schneider of Palmerston, John McLaughlin & Kim Nickel of Palmerston, Jim & Kathy McLaughlin of Palmerston, and Adele & Rick Gibbings of Harriston. Grandmother of Jim & Tara Turnbull of Hanover, Katie & Chet Williams of Palmerston, Ben & Debbie Schneider of Harriston, Emily & Shawn Helmuth of Moorefield, Joe & Jennifer McLaughlin of Mildmay, Russell & Jamie McLaughlin of Elmira, Rob & Josie McLaughlin of Palmerston, Maggie & Mike Chambers of Ayton, Kayla & Ryan Fisk of Harriston, Josh & Ashley Gibbings of Harriston, JR & Kera McLaughlin of Harriston, Chris McLaughlin of Palmerston, Eila-Margaret & Steve Seifried of Clifford, and Jenni-Lynne & Jared Johnson of Oro-Medonte. Also survived by 30 great-grandchildren, with three more on the way. Predeceased by her parents Benjamin & Leila (Schnurr) Wightman, sister Joy Lawrence and husband Ron, brothers Ray Wightman and wife Ruth, Leonard Wightman and wife Ruth, and John Wightman in infancy, son-in-law Howard Turnbull, grandson Jonathon Schneider, and great-grandson Troy McLaughlin. A private family funeral service was held at the Hardy-Lee Funeral Home, Harriston on Saturday, December 30 at 10:30am. The service was live streamed, and the link is available on the funeral home website. Interment in Harriston Cemetery. A public celebration of Eila’s life was then held at the Harriston Legion from 1-4pm. Memorial donations to Palmerston & District Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.
