McKNIGHT, Paul Lenard

Passed away peacefully at his home in Harriston on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, in his 71st year. Survived by the love of his life, best friend and devoted wife of 44 years Sharon (Askin) McKnight, his daughters Stacey (Jordan) Wilks, and Lindsey (Ryan) Baker, and by his grandsons Myles, Jack, and Jake. Brother of Sandra Weir, Dean McKnight, and Barry (Bonnie) McKnight, and brother-in-law of Randy (Darlene) Askin, and Wayne (Melissa) Askin. Remembered also by his nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Leonard and Mabel McKnight, parents-in-law John and Eleanor Askin, brother-in-law Howard Weir, and sister-in-law Joanne McKnight. Paul’s family and friends were the center of his world. Known as “Homer” by his friends, it was difficult to pass by the house during the summer months without being invited to join him on the deck for a cold beverage. He was a dedicated Fireman for 25 years on the Harriston-Minto Fire Department, and retired as the Training Officer for the department. Growing up, Paul played a lot of baseball and passed his love for the game onto his daughters and further to his grandsons. He enjoyed watching the Toronto Blue Jays and the Maple Leafs with his grandsons. His other passions included camping, golfing, and trying to catch fish. Despite battling cancer over the last few months, Paul never lost his sense of humor, continuing to crack jokes and pulling light hearted pranks. Though he left us far too soon, we cherish the time we had with him and the memories we will continue to carry. Visitation will be held at the Hardy-Lee Funeral Home, Harriston, on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00pm where the funeral service will be held on Monday, May 20 at 11:00am. Reception to follow at the Harriston Legion. Interment in Harriston Cemetery. Memorial donations to Harriston-Minto Fire Department or Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
