1951-2021 Deanna peacefully passed Tuesday morning July 20th, 2021 with family by her side. Born April 30, 1951 to Bill and Dorothy Johnston and raised in Salem, Ontario. Beloved wife of 47 years to husband Rick McKenna, mother to sons Charlie, Bill, Thom, pre-deceased daughter Margie, daughter-in-law Cat and grandson Liam. Sister to Sandra & Wayne Bowman, Connie & Wayne Halls, Randy & Mary-Lynn Johnston and Kevin & Marilyn Johnston. Sister-in-law to Laurie & Diane McKenna, Valerie & Keith Munn, Mary Ellen & Rick McBride, Karen Clark, Jerry & Delores, John McKenna and aunt to numerous nieces and nephews. Deanna was a willful and energetic child who always had an opinion to share. Whether it was with her siblings, friends, parents or principals, her fearless spirit would not abide to be ignored. As an adult she was lively, outspoken and generally considered “fun to be around”, unless you happened to be an unruly child within eyeshot or an overbearing school official who thought they knew her kids better than she did. She was just as fierce in standing up for her kids as she was compassionate and caring for their hurts and fears. Though she was burdened in life with afflictions such as breast cancer and MS, she never made a complaint as she fought and beat the former nor as she continued her battle with the latter. She was courageous and kind, thoughtful and stern. May her warm smile and explosive laughter shine out and echo on through eternity as she joins her daughter and parents in the great hereafter. Visitation was held on Tuesday, July 27th, 2021 from 2:00 – 5:00pm and 6:00 – 8:00pm at the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home, 37 Church St. East, Elora. A Funeral Mass for Deanna was held at St. Mary’s Immaculate Church, Elora on Wednesday, July 28th, 2021. Interment to be held at St. Mary – St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Elora. Memorial donations may be made to The MS Society.
