Obituary

Passed away January 29, 2019 in Beaconsfield Quebec. Joyce was born on February 11, 1927, the fifth of seven children of Leonard Drury Taylor and Gertrude Ruella McDermott. The Taylors farmed in Upper Nichol Township at Cumnock. The McDermotts were a large farming family from the Second Line of West Garafraxa township at what was then known as Living Springs. Joyce was raised on the Taylor farm on Highway #6 north of Fergus and attended Cumnock School and Fergus High School. Joyce and her sister Audrey left Fergus for Toronto after high school and Audrey subsequently began working at the nuclear research facility at Chalk River Laboratories near Deep River. While visiting sister Audrey, Joyce met an up and coming young research physicist, Robert (Bob) McIntyre. Marriage soon followed and by the mid 1950’s Bob and Joyce had settled in Pointe Claire, Quebec where Bob began his career with the newly formed RCA Laboratories as a well-known authority on photo diodes. Bob and Joyce, along with children Robbie and Joanne, kept close ties with family and school friends and were frequent visitors to their hometowns of Fergus and Antigonish. They took great pleasure in their many nieces and nephews and enjoyed welcoming them to Montreal, a considerably more adventurous destination than small town Ontario or Maritime Canada. In later years, annual whirlwind visits to Fergus by the Taylor Girls – Danilda, Audrey, Joyce, and Betty Anne made up for in enthusiasm any shortfall in planning. Joyce was predeceased by Bob in 1998 and by son Robbie in 2016. A woman of great faith, Joyce’s faith never wavered throughout life’s triumphs or trials. Joyce is survived by her daughter Joanne and many nieces, nephews and in-laws from the MacDonald, McIntyre, Taylor, and Kochanowski families. With her passing, so too passes her generation of Taylor sisters and brothers, having been pre-deceased by Danilda (2006), Bill (2005), Shirley (1925), Audrey (1996), Arthur (1993), and Betty Anne (2009). A spring interment and celebration of life took place at Lakeview Memorial Gardens Beaconsfield, Quebec.
