Jack passed away peacefully at St Joseph’s Health Centre. He was 88. Jack is survived by his children Susan, John and Jane, grandchildren Daniel and Patisha, and sister Bonnie. He is predeceased by his beloved wife Marlene, son Jason, parents Joseph and Marie, and siblings Lorraine and Jim. Jack was a lifelong educator, beginning as a teacher in Arthur and Port Hope, a Vice Principal in Dresden Ontario, and Principal in Orangeville and Shelburne. He ended his career working for the Ministry of Education. He was a tireless advocate for students and colleagues who remember him fondly. Jack’s passion was playing bridge, a pastime that kept him involved in the Guelph Bridge Club and also took him around the world, establishing lifelong friendships everywhere he went. He was an avid baseball fan, rarely missing a Blue Jays game. Jack was a master storyteller with infinite anecdotes that ranged in topics from his childhood growing up in Elora and his escapades as a student at the University of Toronto, to his travels, his work and his family. His sense of humour shone in these stories. He never minded being the butt of his jokes, as long as he made people laugh. Jack’s passing has created a hole in our hearts. It has been a privilege to know and love him. He will now join Marlene, his wife of 59 years. Arrangements entrusted to Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home, 252 Dublin St. N., Guelph. Visitation will be held on September 4, 2024, from 10:00-12:00pm, followed immediately by a memorial service at 12:00pm. Inurnment and reception to follow. Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
